Visual examination of a cylinder is a part of any re-qualification process and should be performed before applying pressure. In fact, most cylinders are rejected because of a finding during a visual examination. The exam may be both internal and external or, in some cases, external only. Some specification cylinders operating in certain gas services may be re-qualified exclusively by a visual examination.
